MEET THE ARTIST

Meleki Timileyin is a graduate of Sociology (Bsc, Msc) who began his career as a full time artist in the year 2016. He is a native of Ogun state, Nigeria but currently works as an artist and art tutor in the city of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a self-taught pencil artist whose works are mostly created from imagination and themed after social realities and societal issues.

In 2018, he was part of a duet exhibition titled ArtSpire (Ilorin, Kwara state) and a group exhibition by The Talented Artists Guild (TAG: Akure, Ondo State). He works best with charcoal pencils, pastels and acrylic paint on different grounds.

Each of his works is a part of a continuing story. They are made under different series of thoughts, some of which are: Times and People, Colored folks, Men of two Worlds, and The mind. In these bodies of work, he explores history and the present day in relation to social groups and societal issues including; Bully, stigmatization, oppression, disability/health, self actualization, socialization and suicide among others.

He finds it fascinating to represent social issues in a face. He through this communicates his idea about humans being both the solution and the problem of the human society. Every change starts with an individual and so is every problem. The message in each of his works are communicated in features like color choice, rings, tattoo, light and shadow, hair locks and seldom facial expression. He aims to by his art inspire intellectual dialogues geared towards actual change in the society.
